Digital-transformation roadmaps rarely fail because the vision was wrong. They fail because the sequencing was wrong — trying to modernize the customer-facing layer before the underlying data is trustworthy, for instance, or automating a process that should have been redesigned first.
A roadmap that survives contact with reality starts by identifying which initiatives unblock others, and sequences accordingly: data-quality and integration work usually comes before analytics; process redesign usually comes before automation; and the highest-visibility initiative isn't always the right one to go first if it depends on groundwork that hasn't been laid yet.
